LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Buffs take two from NV

Baseball is a much easier game when a team’s opponent makes a lot of errors that it can capitalize on. That was the case in two games that North Parkland played against Northern Valley over the past week as the Buffaloes won all three games they played to up their season record to 7-4.

Against Northern Valley, 11 errors committed by the Chargers led to 10 unearned runs. The miscues helped North Parkland to a pair of wins as they downed Northern Valley 9-4 on Thursday and 7-3 on Friday.

In the first meeting Nate Unger picked up two of the Buffs’ seven hits in the game with a single and a double while driving in one run and scoring another.

Steven Sepko got the start and pitched well, allowing just four hits in five innings as Northern Valley scored two runs – one earned – against him. Sepko struck out six batters and did not issue a walk in the start.

Tsubasa Magota came on in relief to start the sixth inning and was charged with one run over the final two innings of the game.

When the two teams met in the second game of the week, Northern Valley gave up six unearned runs on six errors.

Andrew Beers led off the bottom of the first for the Buffaloes by ripping a triple to right field and later scoring on a ground ball to third by Brody Morabito. It was one of two hits for Beers on the day. He also reached on an error and scored all three times he was on base. Magota and Sepko both had two runs driven in on the day.

North Parkland and Lower Macungie played a wild one that the Buffaloes won by a 6-5 score. North Parkland led 4-3 going to the seventh and the Chargers got the first two outs before Sepko doubled to left.

With Aiden Anderson at the plate, Aiden Henning came on to run for Sepko. Anderson singled through the hole on the left side of the infield to drive in Henning for a little breathing room, but the Buffs weren’t done just yet.

Leo Dauberman singled and Magota walked to load the bases for pinch hitter Khalil Cruz, who beat out an infield single to allow North Parkland to go up 6-3 before the Chargers got out of the inning.

In the bottom of the inning, Northern Valley put runners on second and third with two outs for Ryan Bennett, who dropped a single into left field to bring home both runners to make it a one-run game at 6-5. Unger finished the rally by getting a strikeout to end the game.

North Parkland has a doubleheader Thursday against Whitehall-Coplay.
