Upper Mac woman dies in Weisenberg incident

The Pennsylvania State Police Troop M, Fogelsville Criminal Investigation Unit is conducting an investigation into the death of Abigail R. Smith, 24, from Upper Macungie Township.

Police say at approximately 5:55 p.m, July 7, Troopers from Fogelsville were dispatched to the area of the 2300 block of Seipstown Road, Weisenberg Township, for the initial report of a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle.

Upon investigation, it was determined a Subaru sedan, operated by a 33-year-old male, was driving eastbound on Seipstown Road when Smith a passenger in the vehicle exited the passenger’s seat and struck the ground, while the vehicle was in motion.

Police say EMS arrived on scene and transported Smith to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, where she was pronounced deceased at 10:55 p.m. the same day.

In addition to Troop M Fogelsville Criminal Investigation Unit, Troop M Forensic Services Unit and the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office are assisting with this investigation.

According to Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio, an autopsy was performed July 8 and the cause of Smith’s death is blunt force head trauma.

The manner of death is pending, Buglio said.
