Tides fall to Stingrays

The Bethlehem Tides summer swim team hosted the Hanover Stingrays in a Suburban Swim League of the Lehigh Valley meet on July 7 when the Tides had first-place finishes in 16 events.

Despite a 372-225 loss to the Stingrays, the Tides’ record is 4-2.

“We have 120 kids registered, and we have a bunch of kids from Freedom High School, so that’s a huge highlight,” said Tides head coach Sara Collins.

Tides winners in girls events were Audrey Bloss-Ferry in the Girls 15 & Over 50 freestyle (30.12), the 100 IM (1:17.09), and the 50 butterfly (32.22), Lele Waldman in Girls 11-12 50 butterfly (36.13), and Amelia DeBalko in Girls 9-10 25 free (17.53).

Tides winners in boys events were Austin Reiss in Boys 9-10 25 breaststroke (24.76), Joseph Black in Boys 11-12 50 breaststroke (40.84), David Bohner in Boys 8 & Under 25 butterfly (29.18), and the 25 free (22.50), James Krakowski in Boys 9-10 25 butterfly (17.93), the 25 backstroke (20.65), and the 25 free (16.65), and Theo Collins in Boys 11-12 50 free (31.21).

“We have an incredibly fast group of 11 and 12 boys and 9 and 10 boys,” Collins said. “For girls, I have Lele Waldman, Camilla Wilson, and Lena Blazure, who are really leading the pack for points, but I have a lot of girls right around the same capabilities who are scoring points like crazy.”

The Boys 9-10 100 medley relay team of Lincoln Silvoy, Austin Reiss, James Krakowski, and Benjamin Pachon also took first place points (1:26.59).

The Tides won both crescendo relays with Chelsea Bohner, Lele Waldman, Audrey Bloss-Ferry, and Lena Blazure (2:16.84) for the girls and Ayaan Belani, Nate Krakowski, Benjamin Rader, and Theodore Shang (2:17.08) for the boys.

Championships are scheduled for July 19 at Quakertown.
