Reilly anxious to get going for Roughs

Aiden Reilly is anxious.

The junior quarterback is looking forward to being back under center for the Catasauqua Rough Riders after a sophomore season that had plenty of bright moments and was also cut short due to injuries.

In his first full year as a starter, Reilly guided the Roughies to a 3-0 start under first-year head coach Joe Henrich. However, Reilly and others incurred some injuries, and the team never got back on track, as they dropped seven-straight, regular-season games to end the season. They also suffered a 58-14 loss to Northampton on Thanksgiving.

Now healthy, Reilly has a positive outlook for himself and his team. Overall, he completed 88 of 158 passes for 1,306 yards with 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

“I personally feel a lot more confident going into this season,” beamed Reilly recently. “Last year we had a very young team and this year we have so many starters coming back for us.

“We’ve put in so much work in throughout the offseason, so we are very excited to get going in August. (Head) Coach (Joe) Henrich and I have been both working on my game. We really don’t focus on specific areas. We just try to get everybody on the offense on the same page all the time to build a lot of good connections. I’ve also been trying to get myself stronger in the weight room and working on little mechanics at some camps.”

Henrich has liked what he has seen from Reilly.

“Aiden has had a very good offseason,” stressed Henrich back in June. “Getting bigger and stronger. I do expect him to take the next step in his development. He has the tools to be a run and pass threat for us. I am excited to see his growth this season.”

Reilly credits Henrich for the team’s progress this spring.

“We are way ahead of where we were at this time [last year],” added Reilly. “I have to give a lot of credit to coach Henrich. He has turned this program around tremendously and has brought us so many more opportunities that we’ve never gotten before.

“The team has been working very hard throughout the offseason starting in January in the weight room, and there have been so many gains and growths in every single player.”

Aiden Reilly is ready to get things going and returns as the team’s quarterback as a junior for this coming fall season.
