Christmas in July at the library with The Grinch

Lower Macungie Library hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The library has partnered with Plant a Row Lehigh to collect fresh produce for Casa Guadalupe in Allentown. Donations are accepted 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Oct. 12 and can be placed in a cooler inside the library.

There will be a fire truck story time for preschool and youth 10-11 a.m. July 19 and Aug. 5. Lower Macungie Fire Department will bring/ their fire truck.

There will be a Snack and Write: Teen Writing Workshop for grades 6-12 4-5 p.m. July 21.

Celebrate Christmas in July with a showing of “The Grinch” (2018) 10-11:30 a.m. July 22.

Celebrate Cinderella’s 75th anniversary with a showing of the original “Cinderella” (1950) 2-3:30 p.m. July 22.

There will be Sensory Coloring and Crafting for adults 11 a.m. to noon July 22 and Aug. 26.

Sunny Day Story time for children ages 2-5 years is back. Story time meets outside 10-11 a.m. July 23 and 30 and Aug. 6 and 13. In the event of inclement weather, story time will meet in the children’s program room.

Chit Chat & Craft Adult Craft Night will meet 6-8 p.m. July 23 for a reading inspired woven bookmark and 6-8 p.m. Aug. 13 to create punch needle art.

There will be Music and Movement with Creative Learning Lab for youth 10-11 a.m. July 24.

There will be a free teen painting party for students entering grades 6-12 4-5:30 p.m. July 24 at Out of Our Minds Studio in Macungie.

Fun, Friendship and Fiber Arts (for adults) will meet 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 25 and Aug. 1 and 15. Bring your projects and make friends and share ideas.

Shakespeare for Kids from the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival will present scenes from Much Ado About Nothing for youth ages 4-10 years 10 a.m. July 26.

Teen reading lounge will meet 2-3:30 p.m. July 26 to discuss “Scythe” by Neal Shusterman, eat pizza and do a hands-on craft. The next meeting will be 2-3:30 p.m. Aug. 9 to discuss “Heartstopper” by Alice Oseman.

There will be a movie matinee showing of “White Bird” for teens and adults 1 p.m. July 28.

Get in the Game for youth, teen and adults will meet 6-7:45 p.m. July 29 and Aug. 5.

Builders Brigade for grades K-5 will meet 6-7 p.m. July 31.

Dungeons and Dragons for grades 6-12 will meet 4-5:30 p.m. Aug. 4. The librarian Dungeon Master will guide the adventure. Pizza and snacks will be available.

There will be a movie matinee showing of “The Monuments Men” for teens and adults 1-3 p.m. Aug. 4.

There will be a Sensory Movie Matinee for adults with disabilities and their caregivers 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 5 and 19.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club book for 10:30 a.m. to noon Aug. 6 is “French Braid” by Anne Tyler. The book for Sept. 3 is “The Women” by Kristin Hannah. The book club meets virtually.

Teen Advisory Board for grades 6-12 will meet 4-5:30 p.m. Aug. 7.

Masterpiece Focus: Father Brown vs. Grantchester Men of the Cloth Murder and Mystery for adults will meet 1-2:30 p.m. Aug. 7 to discuss the two shows.

The Kona Ice truck will visit the library noon to 1 p.m. Aug. 9.

Books and Beyond will meet 6:30-8:30 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Shoppes of Premise Maid, 10860 Hamilton Blvd., Breinigsville. The next meeting will be in September to discuss “The Wager” by David Grann.

There will a Sensory Game Day for adults with disabilities and their caregivers 11 a.m. to noon Aug. 12.

There be an author talk and book signing by Anne Supsic, author of “The Bookmark” 6:30-7:45 p.m. Aug. 12. The library will not be selling the book.

LEGO Pictionary for grades K-5 will meet 6-7 p.m. Aug. 14.

Lower Macungie Library Afternoon Book Club will meet 1-2:30 p.m. Aug. 14 to discuss “The Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah. The book for Sept. 18 is “The Paris Library” by Janet Skeslien Charles.

There will be a back-to-school story and craft for grades K-5 6-7 p.m. Aug. 20.

Back-to-School Bingo for grades K-5 will be held 6-7 p.m. Aug. 21.

The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens will meet noon Aug. 19 for pizza at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center. Entertainment will be provided by singer Jen Hackett.

The Alburtis Seniors will meet noon Aug. 20 at Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis. There will be a potluck buffet lunch followed by a meeting and bingo. There is a small charge. Bring a covered dish. For more information, call Doris at 610-966-3653.

Lower Macungie pool hours are noon to 8 p.m. through July 31. Hours for Aug. 1-24 are noon to 7 p.m. There will be Beach Blanket Bingo 6 p.m. July 30 (rain date July 31). Pool Member Appreciation Day with a giant slide will be held noon to 5 p.m. July 27. New this year: water aerobics classes and children’s birthday parties.

Summer concerts are back. Flamin’ Dick and the Hot Rods will play 1950s music 6-8:30 p.m. July 19; Jeff Krick will play hits of the 1950s and 1960s and Elvis 6-8 p.m. July 25; family movie night will be 8 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Hills at Lockridge Park Bandshell, 7125 Scenic View Drive, Macungie.

The Lower Macungie Township Historical Society, in collaboration with the Emmaus and Upper Milford historical societies, is hosting a James and Dolley Madison Tea Party at the Bartholomew Center museum 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sept. 27. Lower Macungie Township offers indoor pickleball at the community center gymnasium. Advance registration is required.

Open gym is available at the community center; residents must purchase an annual membership to use the gym.

Lower Macungie Township offers many programs for adults and children. For more information, go to http://www.lowermac.com/recreation/activities-programs/. Adult classes include yoga, Zumba, Pilates, martial arts and tai chi. Youth classes include cooking, cricket, tennis, martial arts, golf and tot sports. There are also many youth camps.

Yard waste center hours through Oct. 31 are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.

Weekly curbside collection of grass clippings takes place the same day as trash collection. Yard waste collection is every other week July 21 and Aug. 4 and 18.
