LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Summer schedule changes and borough updates

At the July 7 council meeting, several adjustments were made to Fountain Hill’s summer meeting schedule. The July 23 meeting has been moved to July 21, and the Aug. 4 meeting has been rescheduled for Aug. 11. Additionally, the Aug. 20 meeting has been canceled.

An emerging issue discussed was the borough pool’s filter system, which is currently malfunctioning. While a final cost estimate for replacement is not yet available, officials hope to resolve the problem soon.

Lechauweki Park recently experienced minor vandalism. In response, Amy Burkhart emphasized the borough’s commitment to park maintenance and safety: “We are being cognizant of all the parks that we have and want to make sure that they are maintained and being used appropriately by everyone.”

Council is also reviewing ordinances related to RVs, boats, trailers, and similar vehicles being parked on borough streets. These vehicles often block narrow alleys and contribute to parking congestion. The issue will be brought to the House of Ordinance and is expected to be discussed further by September.

The police and fire departments are in need of updated mobile data terminals this year. Although the borough applied for a Firehouse Subs Grant, the request was denied. As a result, the borough may incur $294,466 in debt. However, due to its current financial standing, the borough can get an interest-free loan from Lehigh County to help cover the cost.

Council President Stewart McCandless closed the meeting with well wishes: “I hope everyone had a wonderful Fourth of July – safe, happy, and healthy. The pool is doing well, and I’m very glad to see that.”
