LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

MAMA;S MUSINGS By Lani Goins

Summer days

This week will mark the one month end date to my summer. So far, it’s been a very good one.

No major traveling, but we found plenty to do around here. That’s one of the things I love about the Lehigh Valley. There is so much happening every day.

We are also teaching my youngest a few household things. My older son reminded me that he and his sister learned housework early. I reminded him that at the time, I worked 12- and 13-hour days and so did their father. It was out of trying to keep our family afloat. It didn’t work. Still, my older son reminded me that there is nothing wrong with learning housework early. It’s kind of funny. I was once accused of coddling my older son, who had a lot of medical problems. Now, my older son worries that I coddle the younger one.

Learning chores young was the tradition in my adopted family. I think I managed to put floor cleaner in the dishwasher, and burned a few cooking pans, but I learned. We had a poodle who loved brownie batter. I made a lot of brownies. I still don’t love chores. I still do love dogs.

I do enjoy meal planning. I’m slowly trying to expand what my picky youngest eats. And I’ve blanched beans for the first time this summer.

I hope to make the most of the final month of summer. We have a day coming up that is all about seeing plays. Fun! Soon my youngest will have what will hopefully be the last appointment with his surgeon for his broken arm. His activities have been somewhat limited, and I’m hoping he will be able to do more soon.

Overall, it’s been a good summer. Here’s to the rest of it!
