Junior H. Getz
Junior H. Getz, 83, of Kutztown, Weisenberg Township, died June 30, 025, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hospice Unit. He was the husband of the late Janet L. (Gehman) Getz. They were married 53 years at the time of her passing. Born on Trexler Road, Breinigsville, he was the youngest of five children of the late Harry F. and Irene M. (Newhard) Getz. In his childhood he attended the Breinigsville School House and worked picking potatoes at the Henry Shade potato farm in Breinigsville.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Church in Trexlertown. On Jan. 24, 1960 he married his wife Janet. Along with his wife they owned and operated Getz Service Station since 1978, located along Route 222 for over 47 years.
For decades, he could be seen throughout the area in his tow truck helping stranded motorists, towing vehicles and changing flat tires. It was a profession he truly loved and enjoyed along with working with his family.
He worked as a maintenance mechanic at Saucony Shoe Factory in Kutztown from 1959 until its closing in 1977. He also worked part-time at Walt Gombert ESSO and Sterner’s Exxon, both located in Breinigsville and at West End Sunoco in Allentown.
He was a proud lifetime member of the Goodwill Fire Company, Trexlertown.
He is survived by sons, Jeffrey S. and his wife, Beverly, and Mark C. and his wife, Angela, all of Kutztown, Tyler, of Alburtis; grandchildren, Lisa Oswald and Justin and Jaron; great-granddaughters Olivia and Emily Oswald; sister, Joyce Ziegler, of Reading; companion, Sandra Follweiler.
He was preceded in death by a brother Paul; sisters, Doris (Frederick) Fenstermaker and Edith (Carl) Ruppert.
