LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

EHS names student of the week

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. I live with my mom, Andrea, dad, Michael and my twin sister, Miranda.

Q. Having recently completed high school, do you have any special plans for this summer?

A. This summer, I hope to get a part-time job and play my guitar more.

Q. What was your favorite class at Emmaus High School? Why?

A. Although I loved many of my classes and teachers at Emmaus, my two favorites were AP Government with Mr. Pum and choir classes with Ms. Wallace. In my AP Government class, Mr. Pum was always an engaging teacher and would make time to answer our questions about the material when we were confused. He always used stories and analogies in his lessons to make the content stick, which helped many of my classmates score well on the AP exam. However, I would also have to say being in choir classes at Emmaus was some of my favorite courses I have taken throughout my high school experience, because although the entire EHS music department is extremely talented, Ms. Wallace made our weekly rehearsals fun, which helped me develop my vocal abilities and find true friends I can count on for a lifetime.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I was on the Principal’s Honor Roll all four years and was inducted into the Emmaus chapter of National Honor Society during my last year of high school. Additionally, I was also an honor graduate recipient at graduation.

Q. Were you involved in any extracurricular activities? How did being involved in these organizations impact your high school experience?

A. At EHS, I was involved in choir (10th-12th grades), new student mentoring (11th and 12th grade) and Hornet Ambassadors (12th grade only). Being involved in these wonderful organizations during my high school years (the new student mentor group and Hornet Ambassador organizations at Emmaus) impacted my high school experience by allowing me to connect with freshmen and new students, which helped them feel welcome, understand the school’s rules and navigate through Emmaus’ various hallways.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. My biggest challenge to date was when I was an 11th grader and took AP Government. Not only did I have to go to several dance classes a week to be a part of a company team, but I also had to learn all of the units of AP Government before the exam in May and find time to study, without compromising my sleep, memorize my songs for upcoming choir concerts and maintain an A average. I would not have been able to get through the craziness of AP Government and dance without my sister’s constant motivation to attend dance and prioritize my academics.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. After high school, I will be attending Muhlenberg College in the fall.

Q. If you could spend an evening conversing with a historically significant person, whom would you choose? Why?

A. Out of the notable people in the world, I would choose Judy Garland because she was devoted to her acting career and still found time to release successful albums and collaborate with such incredible artists during her time. Additionally, it would be interesting to learn what motivated her to be involved in acting at such a young age and hear how much people in her time valued the arts as much as society does now.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered for my strong dedication to school, commitment to developing my musical abilities through choir and helping underclassmen succeed through new student mentoring, Hornet Ambassadors and interacting with them after class. Looking beyond high school, I would like to be remembered for the ability to help others in my day-to-day life.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. My advice for my peers would be to make time for clubs, especially during your freshman year. Making time during freshman year for at least one organization will help build true friendships and meaningful memories that will last a lifetime.
