Hanover properties to see tax changes

Council OKs reassessments of four parcels

At the Hanover Township, Lehigh County, Council meeting, council voted to approve four property reassessments at 881 Marcon Blvd., Allentown; 2202 N. Irving St., Allentown; 861 Marcon Blvd., Allentown; and 894 Marcon Blvd., Allentown. The reassessments lowered local and school property taxes for owners of the properties.

Township Solicitor Jason Ulrich, Esq., noted the reductions of township taxes will be minimal because the township has a low property tax rate. The school district, Ulrich explained, will experience a larger tax loss because of its substantially higher property tax rate on the affected properties.

Township Manager Melissa Wehr said the first movie in the park was postponed due to inclement weather. Wehr noted the planned movie — “Shark Tail” — is rescheduled for July 10 at Chestnut Grove Park, 2202 Grove Road. Admission is free, and the movie begins at dusk.

Township Engineer Kevin Chimics reported the Lloyd Street overlay project may begin in late July or August. He added the contractor may request overnight work during the project. The contractor plans a traffic pattern evaluation to establish if there is a need to work overnight. If the overnight plan is developed, the contractor will approach council for approval.

Liz Rosencrans, D&L Trail director of trails and conservation, provided an update on an amendment of the D&L Trail. Two plans, one from Allentown and the second from Hanover, were amalgamated into one plan by the Pennsylvania Department Environmental Protection. A concern in the amendment is stormwater management.

Rosencrans said the amendment will delay the completion of the project for about one year. The cost of the project is grant funded, including funds from the American Rescue Plan Act. Council approved the amendment, and there is no cost to the township.

Council approved the township bills for July 2 in the amount of $136,676.

The next council meeting is set for 7 p.m. July 16 in the township municipal building, 2202 Grove Road. The meeting is in-person only. Visit hanleco.org to access an agenda of the meeting.
