Weisenberg Lutheran Church to celebrate Christmas in July
Experience the wonder of Christmas in the heart of summer. A Christmas tree, ornaments and other festive decorations will adorn Weisenberg Lutheran Church at 9 a.m. July 20 for a traditional Christmas Candlelight service. The unique timing allows participants to focus on the true meaning of Christmas without the distractions and busyness that often come with the usual December hustle and bustle.
This cherished tradition began in 2021, when the COVID-19 pandemic forced the December candlelight service into a virtual online service only, leaving many members missing the warmth and spirit of an in-person gathering. The Christmas worship celebration the following July was so well received that it has become an annual event, now in its fifth year.
The entire worship service will center on Christmas and feature many of the same joyful elements as a traditional Christmas Eve worship, including a fully decorated church, singing beloved hymns, and the reading of the Gospel nativity story as told in Luke and John. The worship choir will present a special anthem, and there will be a children’s message about the birth of Jesus.
After Holy Communion, the congregation will participate in the candle lighting and sing “Silent Night” by candlelight, creating a memorable and moving experience. The children will receive battery-operated candles so they can join in this special moment, too.
Following the service, everyone is invited to a social hour with Christmas cookies lovingly baked by church members. All are welcome to attend this unique and meaningful celebration.
