HEALTH SCHOLARSHIPS: Two Bethlehem Area School District seniors are among five Lehigh Valley students to receive $1,000 scholarships from Star Community Health. The scholarships will assist recipients in funding their continuing education.

•Pantelis Georgalas of Liberty HS in Bethlehem will attend St. Joseph’s University in the six-year PharmD program.

•Hannah Heidmann of Freedom HS plans to major in exercise science but is undecided on which college she will attend.

Recipients were chosen from a one-page essay and also needed to submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher. Each applicant was selected based on their attendance at a high school within the Star Community Health Service area, as well as for their outstanding academic achievements and extracurricular involvement. Furthermore, they have demonstrated a commitment to pursuing higher education at either a two- or four-year institution.

Other Valley recipients are Martina Ferriolo of Dieruff HS in Allentown, Kimberly Kinara of Easton HS and Matthew Sherer of Phillipsburg HS.

This is the second year Star Community Health is awarding seniors scholarships. The essay contest was open to any high school senior in the Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton Area school districts who plans to attend a two- or four-year college.

RESEARCH HONORS: The psychology department at ESU hosted the 53rd Biannual Research Forum at the end of the spring semester. Scott Kowalski and Meia Stapleton, both of Bethlehem, were among the students recognized during the forum. The encouragement and recognition of student research are central aspects of the Forum.
