LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Comic Book storytelling workshop for teens

Comic book/graphic novel character creation and strange new world-building are at the heart of this workshop at the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts July 14-18. This popular workshop is taught by novelist Scott Beatty, who has has written hundreds of adventures for many of comics’ most iconic characters including Batman and Robin tales for DC Comics, as well as The Phantom, Buck Rogers, and Sherlock Holmes for Dynamite Entertainment. Beatty has also contributed comic book stories to IDW Publishing, Dark Horse Comics, and Crossgen Comics.

Participants will create the secret origin of their own character and chronicle their first adventure in script and art! Participants will showcase their creations during a short ‘talk-back’ session, pitching their work just like comics pros, with parents and families on the final day of class! This year’s session will also include some illustration instruction. Open to ages 12-17. Registration details on the school website, CharterArts.org. The workshop is part of the school’s Summer Academy, a program of arts enrichment workshops that is open to the community. Go to charterarts.org, click on Summer Academy page under GET INVOLVED tab.
