Summer reading program begins at the library

The Parkland Community Library launched its 2025 Summer Reading Program, “Color Our World,” with a festive kickoff party.

The program runs through noon Aug. 9 and encourages readers of all ages to log their reading and complete fun activities for a chance to win prizes.

Participants can easily track their reading progress using the Beanstack app at www.parklandlibrary.beanstack.com, where they can sign up or log in to join the Summer Reading Club.

Children ages newborn to 11 receive a “bling bag” filled with summer reading essentials.

The bag includes a folder where kids can color a numbered item for every 20 minutes spent reading.

After completing nine items, they earn a prize and a raffle ticket.

Additional prizes are awarded after reaching 18 and 30 items.

Once a child logs 10 hours of reading, they can request a bonus log sheet to earn extra raffle tickets for every three additional hours read up until the program ends noon Aug. 9.

The swag bag also includes a bingo card and materials to create a greeting card for someone special in the community. Completed cards can be returned to the library and they will be sent through Meals on Wheels to brighten someone’s day.

“Let’s make a difference – one brushstroke at a time,” the library’s program slogan reads.

The program wraps up with a closing party 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 9 featuring spin art for all ages, final prize raffle drawings and celebratory activities.

Special prize drawings will be held exclusively for those who attend the closing event.

Prizes are on display throughout the library, and families are encouraged to check the library’s event calendar for full program details.
