Parkland’s ‘Les Misérables: School Edition’ in the Freddy spotlights

Student thespians from area high schools gathered on Easton’s State Theatre stage for the 2025 Freddy Awards Ceremony recently.

They joined together to perform the opening and closing numbers.

Having garnered 15 Freddy nominations, including for Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical, Parkland High School’s “Les Misérables: School Edition” cast came home sans wins, but did put on a rousing performance of “One Day More” from their production during the evening event.

Nominated for the Freddy for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, Samuel Lundberg, as Jean Valjean, took his turn soloing with a song from Parkland’s “Les Misérables: School Edition.”

In 2003, the State Theatre Center for the Arts partnered with WFMZ Channel 69 to create a live television show to recognize outstanding achievement in local high school musical theater.

The Freddy Awards are named after J. “Fred” Osterstock, the legendary “Fred the Ghost” of the State Theatre who managed the company that owned the theater from 1936 until his death in 1957.
