EHS students receive senior awards

Approximately 200 Emmaus High School seniors were recognized recently for their academic and athletic accomplishments. The school’s auditorium and balcony were packed by family, friends, staff members and sponsors of the monetary awards who attended the event. The program moved quickly with the principal and assistant principals taking turns reading the numerous award winners and scholarship descriptions, as many of the seniors won multiple awards throughout the evening.

Principal Beth Guarriello opened the program by recognizing the seniors on stage for their commitment to excellence, dedication and sacrifices. District Director Robert Arena presented the state Sen. Jarrett Coleman’s Good Citizenship Award to Connor Iyengar and Jackson Kreiner.

Todd and Nancy Salomon presented the Craig James Salomon Memorial Scholarship to Cecilia Ruyak, Joshua Guth, Ayden Kegley and Sophia Tranguch. Craig James Salomon would have graduated this year with his twin brother Carter, who was present on stage for the senior awards.

Janice Rohrbach was proud to be a part of this year’s program to provide a scholarship in her late husband’s name, Chip Rohrbach who graduated from Emmaus in 1986. Rohrbach was a significant part of the theater community at Emmaus and Janice wanted to honor his memory with this scholarship. The first recipient of The Chip Rohrbach Memorial Scholarship in Theater was Anna Smith who will be attending Georgia Tech in the fall.

Calvin Sun also attended the program to see Elizabeth Navitsky accept the Ted Sun ‘61 Memorial Award. Calvin was thrilled to meet in person the University of Pitt-bound Navitsky who will study physical therapy. Calvin beamed with pride that his brother’s legacy lives on in seeing these young graduates pursue their similar dreams.

Sarah Lorenzo and Jackson Kreiner earned the most academic awards taking home six each while Griffin Meesenlehner won the highest number of athletic awards with four awards. The program concluded with Ava Gaydos being recognized with the Principal’s Award for her dedicated service to the Emmaus High School community.
