Annual golf tourney benefits CHS sports

James Snyder always looks forward to the annual Catasauqua Rough Rider Golf Tournament.

This season was no exception. I

t was an another afternoon of camaraderie and shared stories from year’s past.

Snyder teamed with longtime friends Michael Dudes and John and Brandon Haydt to capture the top spot at the 18th annual tournament at Shepherd Hills Golf Course back on June 7.

Their foursome, which fired a 12-under, was among 92 golfers in the field. More than $6,000 was raised for the athletic department.

“It is always fun being in the charity tournament, given that I teach and coach here,” said Snyder, who is assistant boys’ basketball coach. “It makes it even more fun if you can win. Although my three buddies from college carried the team.

“I don’t really see my college buddies often because of life’s paths, so golf is a good way to see them and have a good time. The tournament wasn’t really considered something competitive in my eyes, always fun and to help support our town’s athletic programs.”

Other individual winners were closest to the pin on hole three - Phil Hickman (4-8); closest to the pin on hole five - Andrew Oswald (1-2); closest to the pin on hole 14 - Nick Labatch (6-6); longest drive on hole 17 - Brandon Haydt; putting contest - Cecilea Dweck and Dave Penchishen; pot of gold - Zach Koller, Dan Reiter and Mike Krause.

Athletic director Tom Moll thanked Jennifer Warren, Marisa Bartholomew, Tracy DeLong, Kawaunna Waldron, Eric Snyder and Todd Krevanchi for volunteering to help make this year’s tournament a tremendous success.

“I would like to thank the golfers, hole sponsors and many individuals and businesses who made donations for this year’s tournament,” said Moll. “We are already looking forward to next year’s tournament.”
