No. Valley starts 2-2 in LVL games
As the high school baseball season was winding down, the Lehigh Valley Legion League was ramping up.
Northwestern Lehigh reached states before seeing its season come to an end and its players were able to start play with the Northern Valley Chargers.
Much like the Tigers’ season at points, the Chargers have gotten off to an up-and-down start through their first four games.
Northern Valley has picked up wins against Whitehall-Coplay and Lower Macungie, but has fallen against both North and South Parkland to finish its first four games at 2-2.
Late in the season, Northwestern’s offense sputtered, and the Chargers have seen some of the hangover effects of that as they have posted just nine runs in four games and are batting just .165 as a team. Northern Valley was no-hit by South Parkland in a 6-0 loss to open last week before rebounding to beat Lower Macungie 2-9, collecting five hits in the win.
Among players with 10 or more plate appearances, Max George (.429) and Nolan Fitzgerald (.300) have been bright spots for Northern Valley’s offense. Jacob Carson has the team’s only home run and Fitzgerald and Parker Schaffer are tied for the team lead with two RBI each.
Connor Simms has made two starts and has not allowed an earned run in 14 innings, throwing complete games against both Whitehall-Coplay and Lower Macungie to be the winning pitcher in both games.
Christopher Vargas allowed two earned runs over six innings against North Parkland and Carson has not allowed a run in two innings of relief for the Chargers.
The defense has made three errors in the four games that have resulted in four unearned runs, three of which came in the season opener against Whitehall-Coplay.
