EHS volleyball reaches title game

The Emmaus High School boys volleyball team had a successful week last week, winning its first two matches in the District 11 3A tournament.

The top-seeded Hornets took down ninth-seeded Easton in straight sets by scores of 25-13, 25-14, 25-16 last Tuesday, May 20, and then defeated the defending champs in fifth-seeded Parkland 3-1 by scores of 28-26, 17-25, 25-18, 25-23 in the semifinals at Catasauqua High School last Thursday night.

The Hornets (20-1 overall) earned a spot in the district title match Tuesday night against the three seed, Freedom. They are looking for their first district championship since 2018 when they won back-to-back, winning in 2017 as well.

In the win over the Red Rovers, Lucas Mondin led the attack with 10 kills and added three digs. Bilaal Kerim finished with seven kills and two blocks. Colin Holden recorded five kills and three blocks and both Grayson Answini and Sander Houtz tallied four kills and combined for seven digs. Ben Skekel contributed 30 assists and Jackson Holden led the defense with seven digs.

In the victory against the Trojans, which was the fourth this season against them, the Green Hornets had to rally late to take the opening match and then lost the second one. Emmaus responded with a win in the third set and then held on late for the match-clinching victory in the fourth set.

Mondin finished with a team-high 15 kills and just missed a double-double, ending with nine digs. Holden recorded 12 kills and six blocks. Kerim contributed 12 kills, four blocks and three digs. Chris Mitchell tallied 11 kills and seven digs. Skekel added 56 assists, five blocks and five digs.
