Close-game losses plagued Hornets
The 2025 season for the Emmaus High School baseball team was a little bit unfortunate when it came to results.
There were seven losses by just two runs or less and the Hornets did not qualify for the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference tournament.
The district playoffs saw another close loss as Emmaus fell to Freedom 2-1.
Hornet head coach Jeremy Haas’ squad finished the year 11-10 overall and 8-8 in the conference.
“At the beginning of each season, our goal is to qualify for leagues and districts,” said Haas. “We failed to qualify for the league tournament and were eliminated in the first round of districts. Unfortunately, when you look at the season as a whole it is a bit of a disappointment.
“We had seven losses by two runs or less. If we make one more pitch or make one more play or get one more hit, we are looking at this season in a much different way. Unfortunately, we didn’t have those little things go our way and we needed to find a way to make our own luck. This group got better each and every day. They showed up ready to practice and compete each and every day.”
Haas noted some of his favorite things from the 2025 season, including one that fans might not see.
“My favorite moments are the practices when things start to click as a team,” Haas said. “The games are fun. Winning competitive games vs Pocono Mountain East, Hazleton and Nazareth are memorable, but the practices are where you find the enjoyment in the game.”
The Hornets will graduate six seniors, including Aaron Fleetwood, Owen Haas, Bryan Kain, Andrew Lee, Drew McGeehan and Logan Ravier.
“They showed up ready to practice and compete each and every day,” said Haas. “Our seniors were a group of true professionals. They understood what hard work is and how to be the best versions of themselves.”
The lineup was led by freshman Tanner Karwacki, who finished with a .486 batting average in 43 plate appearances. He had with 17 hits, 13 RBI and 10 runs scored.
Josh Diaz recorded a team-best 19 hits and added 11 RBI and 14 runs. Fleetwood tallied 18 hits, scored 17 runs and had 15 RBI with a .305 average. Ravier hit .310 with 18 hits, 25 runs and six RBI. Robert Barnes notched 18 hits, 13 RBI and scored eight runs with a .321 average. McGeehan contributed 17 hits, 12 runs scored and seven RBI.
Emmaus will have more than half of its starting lineup back next season to help it achieve those goals in 2026.
“We will return six of our nine starters and nearly all of our pitching,” Haas said. “We need to have a good offseason, but there are things in place that could lead to wins next season. Our work ethic this offseason must match our aspirations for next season.”
