Brookside Road apartment building approved
At the June 19 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting, the commissioners approved Ordinance 2025-03 for the purchase of the improved radio communications for the township’s fire and EMS groups. This ordinance is for the obligation note for $639,252.
Resolution 2025-23 was approved for the Herbert Schlenkel minor subdivision located at 7624 and 7627 Mountain Road; 7624 Mountain Road is 88.10 acres. The location is the south side of Mountain Road, near the intersection of Schoeneck Road. There will be one residential lot and one nonbuilding lot which will be 75.14 acres for the conservation easement.
The other part is 7627 Mountain Road, currently vacant and 24.66 acres. This is to be subdivided into three lots which will be two residential lots and one nonbuilding lot which will be 17.24 acres of conservation.
A waiver will occur for the sewage facilities planning module for the “parent” tract.
Resolution 2025-24 is for the Hamilton Square preliminary/final land development at 5329-5373 Hamilton Blvd. A sewage facilities planning module was discussed for the Hamilton Square development. This was approved.
Resolution 2025-25 for Brookside Meadows Apartments at 3500 Brookside Road, next to Wehrung’s Home Center, was up for discussion. This development has had a history of concerns due to the traffic situation. Commissioner Ron Beitler said public safety is his main concern as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation does not think a traffic light is necessary in this area.
Efforts have been made to request PennDOT reevaluate the request for a light at Indian Creek Road which will be the area where the private drive will be located.
Board President Brian Higgins has expressed his dissatisfaction over the initial response and the lack of the response when requested for a review again
The project was approved despite the concern. Beitler voted against it. Vice President Richard Ward wrote a letter as he was not in attendance. His concern is public safety.
The development is 7.6 acres and will have two 3-story buildings which will have 44 dwelling units.
The next meeting will be July 17.
