Supervisors meet camp staff
At the June 12 East Allen Township Board of Supervisors meeting, park and recreation Director Chuck Frantz introduced the summer camp program counselors and staff. The supervisors were impressed with the young people who will make this year’s summer camp another success.
Supervisors unanimously approved the appointment of the 14 summer camp program camp counselors. The camp opened June 16 and runs until Aug. 1. There were reportedly 123 campers going to attend camp, as of the June 12 meeting.
The popular camp, held at Bicentennial Park, fills up quickly when announced during spring. Not only is summer fun provided with a variety of games and activities, but also there is an educational component provided to the campers. For example, Wildlands Conservancy visits with a number of small animals.
Pennsylvania State Police-Troop M, Bethlehem, has, in previous years, visited the camp with a police helicopter for campers to touch and explore, as well as other first responder vehicles. They learn what services the PSP provides.
In other business, planning commission Chairman Robert Mills presented the 2024 annual East Allen Township Planning Commission report. It is the first township planning commission annual report, described by Mills as a living document to be presented to the supervisors. It is a comprehensive compilation of the activities of the commission throughout 2024.

Township Manager Brent Green recommended supervisors invest township funds from the general fund in the amount of $2,500,000 and the capital recreation fund in the amount of $571,500 into certificates of deposit. The board approved the investing and purchase of two certificates of deposit at a rate of return of 4.25% with a term not to exceed 90 days.
A change order was approved for discovered sinkholes in the Bicentennial Park habitat restoration project in the amount of $1,717. The board also approved a payment application from Cuz Excavating for the Bicentennial Park habitat restoration project in the amount of $25,804.80.
Green reported the township received notification from Bath Borough regarding the intent to adopt an official map outlining future proposed improvements for the borough. Bath is required to contact and make adjacent municipalities aware of its plans to develop an official map.
Supervisors approved a request from Lehigh Valley Planning Commission to submit a letter of support for the group to obtain federal grant funding through a federal program to create a regional, comprehensive transportation safety action plan for the Lehigh Valley region.
