PRESS PHOTO BY BEN FELKER-QUINNProtesters gathered outside Bethlehem City Hall Thursday, June 12th, the day after a division of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement — with vests marked “ERO” for Enforcement and Removal Operations — was recorded handcuffing construction workers and taking them away in vans from Southside Bethlehem. Speakers at the protest reported as many as 16 or 17-people were taken late morning Wednesday from their worksite at the recently burned Five10 Flats on 3rd Street. One speaker mentioned her abducted friend Eduardo Ramirez, a local father of two young boys (4 and 5 years old).
“It’s up to us with the privilege of our citizenship to protect our neighbors and friends. Every morning, early morning is when they want to attack -- when folks are getting ready to go to work, eat their breakfast--so please beware,” Yumaira Saavedra-Mozo said to a crowd of hundreds Thursday evening . She finished with a chant: “No somos uno, no somos cien. Somos milliones, cuéntanos bien.” [“We’re not one, we’re not a hundred. We’re among millions--count us well.”]
