Bach Choir of Bethlehem on demand and in demand

The Bach Choir of Bethlehem is on demand and in demand.

The Bach Choir of Bethlehem 2025 performance of J.S. Bach’s “Mass In B Minor” was offered on-demand for the 117th Bach Festival, May 8 to May 11 in Bethlehem.

Those who could not attend in person for the May 10 performance by The Bach Choir of Bethlehem, Bach Festival Orchestra and soloists of the “Mass In B Minor” at Packer Church, Lehigh University, could experience the two-part concert in the video-on-demand format.

The festival in May is not the last opportunity to hear the Bach Choir live in concert this spring and summer in the Lehigh Valley. The “Bach at Noon” summer series concerts resumed June 10 at St. John’s Lutheran Evangelical Church, Allentown.

The concerts are performed by members of the Bach Choir, Bach Festival Orchestra and guest artists, with remarks by Dr. Christopher Jackson, Artistic Director and Conductor of the Bach Choir.

The June “Bach at Noon” program was Giacomo Carissimi’s “Jephte” (circa 1628), regarded as an early Baroque masterpiece, and Bach’s “Ich bin vergnügt mit meinem Glücke,” BWV 84 (“I am content with my fortune”).

The June “Bach at Noon” was named in honor of Dorothy Hess Baker and her mother, Elizabeth Leith Hess, who were former members of the Bach Choir of Bethlehem. The concert and the participation of featured soprano and alto soloists were made possible in part by a legacy gift from the Dexter F. And Dorothy H. Baker Foundation.

The summer “Bach At Noon” concerts are noon-1 p.m. July 8 and Aug. 12, St. John’s Lutheran Evangelical Church, 37 S. Fifth St., Allentown. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. The concert begins at 12:10 p.m.

The “Bach at Noon” concerts, free and open to the public, resume in September at Central Moravian Church, Bethlehem.

“Bach at Noon” concerts are broadcast live on WWFM, a long-time Bach Choir media sponsor. The 2025 broadcasts are made possible by the support of John L. and the late Carol H. Daniel and Arthur Mead Martin.

There is a listing of CD recordings of The Bach Choir of Bethlehem and Bach Festival Orchestra available for purchase on the Bach Choir website.
