‘A great year of great students’

Postponed a day for a little break from the rain, the Saucon Valley HS graduation was held in the Montford E. Illick Stadium June 7.

Another class attending this year was the graduating class of 1975 having its 50th year anniversary. Several of them attending were recognized as being veterans.

Principal Dr. Richard R Kaskey welcomed everyone to the commencement ceremony.

“The class of 2025 has excelled in the areas of academics and sports,” he said.

The National Anthem was sung by the graduating senior Madeline Janis who had an amazing performance despite the technical difficulties going on behind the scenes.

Class president Yashvi Janvia spoke next.

“I wish I could have stopped a little earlier just to reread these memorable four years.” Janvia said, “but I am most proud of this class for is its passion.”

Valedictorian Lucy Norwood told classmate, “I want you to take your experience with passion here and put it into your future life experiences.”

In his salutatorian speech, Louis Flowers said he would like to begin by congratulating all the students that have finally made it, “and all of the teachers and parents for helping us along the way.”

After these speeches, the honors and awards were given by class secretary Hayden Jebitsch.

“I would like to thank you parents for your unwavering support, love and guidance that you have shown to these students,” Jebitsch said.

Superintendent Jaime Vlasaty followed.

“Life is not easy and life is not fair,” Vlasaty said, “but you get to decide what life you will want.”

Faculty speaker Mario Marcozzi reminded students about the he value of humor and the value of kindness.

He shared storiesstories about the clown nose he wore and how he had uses it to cheer up students. At the end of his remarks, he gave every student their own clown noses for when they’re feeling down in the future.

Selected student speaker Zoe Sauvagnargues urged classmates to embrace the unknown with the knowledge that they had gained.

Following the speeches, diplomas were handed out by Vlasaty and school board member Cedric Dettmar with the names being read out by Assistant Principal Julie Davis and Robert Frey, director of student and community relations.

The turning of the tassels was done by Frey as well.

To close the ceremony, Principal, Dr. Richard R. Kaskey, gave the remarks for his first time at Saucon Valley.

“I am most proud of this class for its passion,“ remarks class valedictorian Lucy Norwood in her commencement address. Norwood is headed to Lehigh University to pursue a degree in English and a master’s in education. Behind her is Class Vice President Peter Albano.
Faculty speaker Mario Marcozzi utilizes a red foam clown nose as he instructs the graduating seniors on, “The value of humor and the value of kindness.” The well-liked social studies teacher issued graduates and faculty with “a standard Marcozzi clown nose of your own” to try out.
