Funding of new radio communication systems for the Salisbury Township Police Department and Emergency Services personnel is advancing.
The new radio equipment is expected to cost the township $828,277.87.
The cost is to be spread over five years.
Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners voted 4-0 at the June 12 meeting to approve a resolution to authorize “initiating the debt process pursuant to the Local Government Unit Debt Act for the purchase of radio equipment and authorize entering into a five-year interest-free obligatory promissory note with the County of Lehigh in the total amount of $828,277.87.”
Township Commissioner Heather Lipkin made the motion, seconded by Commissioner Alex Karol, to bring the resolution to a vote.
Attorney Jason A. Ulrich, partner, Gross McGinley LLP Attorneys At Law, solicitor for the board of commissioners, said the township commissioners may need to vote again on the financing plan for the police radios because of a technical delay on the part of Lehigh County. “We have told them they need to do a filing,” Ulrich said, adding, “The county is accepting resolutions.”
Commissioners voted 4-0 to appoint township representatives to the tax collection committee.
Karol made the motion, seconded by board of commissioner Vice President Rodney Conn, to bring the resolution to a vote.
According to the resolution, Act 32 of 2008 requires “the governing bodies of school districts, townships, boroughs and cities that impose an earned income tax to appoint one voting delegate and one or more alternate delegates to be their tax collection committee.”
The primary voting delegate is Salisbury Township Manager Cathy Gorman. First alternate voting delegate is Township Finance Director Paul Ziegenfus. Second alternate voting delegate is Assistant Township Manager Sandy Nicolo.
Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners President Debra J. Brinton announced an executive session was held before the meeting for personnel and real estate matters.
The June Salisbury Township meeting schedule in the municipal building, 2900 S. Pike Ave., includes: 7 p.m. June 18, environmental advisory council; 7 p.m. June 25, planning commission and 7 p.m. June 26, board of commissioners.
