Whitehall-Coplay School Board held a special board meeting with the committee meetings June 9. During this special meeting, the board of directors approved the 2025-26 general fund budget.
Since the discussions first got underway, the budget has raised concerns from residents, due to the tax increase for property owners. The board initially proposed a 5.3% tax increase — the highest allowed under the Act 1 index. However, as of June 9, the board agreed on a 4.6% increase.
The board explained this tax increase is to close a gap in its $101.5 million budget.
The budget revenues include $62 million in local revenue, $35.1 million from the state, $1.5 million from federal sources and $30,000 in sales and insurance recoveries. The total revenue is listed as $98.7 million.
Expenditures include $63 million in instruction costs, which includes salaries, health insurance, charter schools and more; $28 million in support services; $1.6 million in noninstructional services; and $8.8 million in debt service payments. The total expenditures are $103.2 million.
The 2025-26 budget is available for viewing on the district website. It can be found as an attachment to the June 9 meeting agenda.
