NAHS earns three Freddy Awards for ‘Matilda the Musical’
Cast members from Northampton Area High School’s “Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical” joined other student actors, selected from 28 other participating school productions, onstage to perform the opening and closing numbers during the 2025 Freddy Awards ceremony. The annual event was hosted at State Theatre Center for the Arts, Easton, May 22.
NAHS’ production received three Freddy Awards out of seven nominations.
Audrey Wood was honored with the Freddy Award for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role as Matilda. The 2025 NAHS graduate will study marketing at Northampton Community College in the fall.
The Freddy for Outstanding Featured Performance by an Actress went to Hailey Achey for her role as villainous Miss Trunchbull. She has plans to continue her education at St. Luke’s School of Nursing since graduating.
Hailey Laury danced her way to the Freddy for Outstanding Performance by a Featured Dancer as Mrs. Wormwood. She is a junior.
In 2003, the State Theatre Center for the Arts partnered with WFMZ Channel 69 to create a live television show to recognize outstanding achievement in local high school musical theater. The Freddy Awards are named after J. “Fred” Osterstock, the legendary “Fred the Ghost” of the theater, who managed the company that owned the theater from 1936 until his death in 1957. Northampton Area School District earned seven Freddy nominations for “Matilda.” This is the highest amount of nominations the school’s drama department has received. The lead director is Christine Marto.
