Larry I. Butz

of Macungie

Larry I. Butz, 85, of Macungie, died peacefully June 13, 2025, at Quakertown Manor, Quakertown. He was the husband of the late Joan K. (Schnaitman) Butz, who died in 2017. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Solomon and Lillian (Graver) Butz.

He was a member of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church in Allentown.

He graduated from William Allen High School in 1957.

He served honorably in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1959 to 1965, achieving the rank of corporal. He worked at General Acceptance Corporation as a purchasing agent, which brought his family to live in Miami, Fla., for three years. Upon returning to Pennsylvania, he was a foreman supervisor for 20 years at Mack Trucks before semi-retiring in 1999.

He enjoyed fishing and often took his children and their friends fishing in the Little Lehigh. He coached baseball and softball for his son’s and daughter’s East Penn Youth League teams. He was an avid tennis player, playing tennis well into his 70s. He was loved by his family and had many wonderful friends. He was an “adopted” parent for many of his children’s friends, always making them feel at home.

He is survived by a son, Matthew and his companion, Tonia Wellington, of Macungie; daughter, Monica James and her husband, Michael, of Macungie; grandchildren, Dalton and Savanna and Brock and Jack McElhenney; step-granddaughter, Lindsey James.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. June 19 at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church in Allentown. Interment will be private. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and celebrate his life during a visitation hour at the church 10-11 a.m.
