The South Whitehall Township Police Department is accepting registrations for its seventh annual free Youth Law Enforcement Academy, a hands-on, engaging program designed to introduce local youth to the world of law enforcement, to be held at the police headquarters, 4444 Walbert Ave. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is open to South Whitehall Township residents entering fifth through seventh grade (ages 10–12). Priority will be given to first-time attendees. If space allows, Parkland School District students living outside the township may also be considered. Ziegels Vacation Bible School for youth who have completed kindergarten to sixth grade will be offered 6-8:15 p.m. at 9990 Ziegels Church Road, Breinigsville. The Alaskan theme is called True North, Trusting Jesus in Our Wild World. Participants will learn about Jesus and the gospel of Matthew at Bible Adventures and Sticky Scripture, play Glacier Games, eat snacks at Tundra Treats, and do science experiments at Imagination Station.

Greater Lehigh Valley Writers’ Group will hold its monthly meeting from 10 a.m. – noon June 28. The meeting is offered in a hybrid format—in-person at the Palmer Branch of the Easton Library, 1 Weller Place, Palmer and online via Zoom. From 11 a.m. to noon, author, editor, and book coach Dianna Sinovic will give an Introduction to Canva, a (mostly) free design website. Sinovic will give a broad overview of Canva.com, a design site that’s easy to use and free (for many basic elements). This is an introduction for those not familiar with Canva and a preview of the afternoon workshop. Sinovic will lead an Intro to Designing in Canva workshop from 1:30-3 p.m. This will be a deeper dive into Canva’s many capabilities, with time for attendees to try their hand at creating simple designs. Choose from a bookmark, a social media post, a business card, or all three as time permits. Registration is required for the afternoon workshop. The Northwestern Lehigh Firefighter Foundation will host its second annual Firefighter Appreciation Picnic 1-5 p.m. June 29 at Ontelaunee Park, New Tripoli. The picnic features live music performed by The Large Flowerheads, accompanied by Food Trucks including Heart and Hearth Deli and Smokehouse, JRad Pizza, Nesting Box Ice Cream, Taco Town, and mocktails provided by Eight Oaks Farm Distillery. The public is encouraged to come out and enjoy this picnic and show their appreciation for community volunteer firefighters and their families. The Foundation was established in response to the tragic loss of firefighters Zachary Paris and Marvin Gruber of New Tripoli Fire Company while battling a house fire on Dec. 7, 2022. The Trojan Alumni Varsity Clubs July membership meeting will be 6 p.m. July 1 at the HOPS-Fogelsville Hotel, 7921 Main St., Fogelsville. Erik Steiner will be the main speaker. Steiner is the powerlift and weight coach for Parkland High School. The price of the meal will be $15.

Registration is open for the 16th annual Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley Ready, Set, GOLD 5K Walk/8K Run and Kids’ Fun Run scheduled for Sept. 13 at the Ironton Rail Trail. The 8K Run starts 8:30 a.m. The 5K Walk begins 9 a.m. The Kid’s Fun Run/Obstacle Course for kids 12 and under starts 10:30 a.m. Register by July 6 to take advantage of the early-bird pricing. Compass USA who works to bring international students to the U.S. for three weeks in the summer is looking for families to host three French students. Students will experience the life of an American teenager while enhancing their English skills. The students will participate in six excursions with Compass USA Coordinator Jamie Drozdowski Walker; the rest of the time they’ll be part of the host family – dinners, shopping trips, game nights, weekend fun – just everyday life. 💰There is a weekly stipend families receive to help offset costs due to extra food and gas for those three weeks.
