Technology infrastructure gets an upgrade

At a May 5 committee meeting, Parkland’s Director of Technology, Dr. Tom Derhammer noted the importance of having a system for server and data backups.

“If we had a fire and lost everything, we would not be able to operate the district,” Derhammer said.

He reported the district’s recovery server and storage infrastructure are seven years old and are ready for an upgrade.

Derhammer suggested IntegraONE to provide professional services for installation, configuration and data migration services for the project.

At the May 13 meeting, the board authorized IntegraONE to perform the technology improvement at a cost of $160,837.

Derhammer said the new hardware should last about seven years.

Looking ahead to the new term, the board approved bids for art supplies from 12 different vendors at a total cost of $77,677. They also authorized $12,049 for science materials and $10,189 for school nurse supplies.

The board agreed to renew Parkland’s membership in the Pennsylvania School Boards Association for 2025-2026 at a cost of $18,389, a $535 decrease from the previous term.

In another matter, the board authorized $9,540 to PrimeroEdge for an annual software subscription to provide payment processing for the food services department with a one time implementation fee of $1,995.

Moving on to the district’s newest structure at 2619 Stadium Drive, Orefield, the board granted approval for its name to be Parkland Education and Operations Building.
