EHS holds commencement ceremony
The PPL Center in Allentown was the site for the graduation of Emmaus High School’s Class of 2025 June 8. The orchestra played, under the direction of Connie Arnold, as the seniors entered the center to the “Fanfare and Processional/Pomp & Circumstance” by Edward Elgar. At the completion of the processional, “The Star Spangled Banner” was performed. The Chorale, under the direction of Julia Walters, sang the alma mater.
Emmaus High School’s Principal Beth Guarriello welcomed students, faculty, administrators and guests and introduced the Class of 1975. Guarriello called attention to the outstanding group of educators.
Guarriello asked the class before the ceremony about their knowledge of Mr. Fred Rogers. She quoted his thoughts for the graduates – “Use your kindness, strength and dreams, look for the helper and be the good neighbor ... be the helper. This is an ending but also a beginning. Build a better neighborhood.”
The military was acknowledged with students standing who will be serving following graduation. The Armed Forces Salute was performed by the orchestra. Veterans in attendance were also recognized.
Guarriello introduced the first student speaker, the president of the Class of 2025, Gloria Kim Klees who spoke of the amazing group of teachers from kindergarten through senior year. “They were great and taught us everything we know,” Klees said.
Thinking back to her early years, she said there are thoughts of “can’t wait for middle school, can’t wait for summer break. Can’t wait to graduate.
“Thanks to my mom and dad as they were with me every step of the way. Thanks to all parents. Without you, we wouldn’t be here.”
The 2025 Dr. Herman Corradetti Academic Hall of Fame Award inductee is Jackson Kreiner. He is an exceptional student with a GPA of 4.48. He is also well-versed in French and Spanish. He is involved in the Student Government, National Honor Society, a member of the Young Democrats, involved with the school’s United Nation group and other areas of involvement. His portrait will be displayed in the library as a member of the outstanding students through the years.
The next speaker introduced was Brayden Robert Dang. He is the president of National Honor Society. Everybody has a story but “no story sits by itself.” He used Mitch Albom’s story to talk about how our lives intertwine with others.
Payton Elizabeth Campbell, the Lehigh Carbon Technical Institute Representative, was introduced. Campbell is heading toward a career as a physician assistant.
She spoke of her 13 years as a student from kindergarten, elementary school through high school. “Take every opportunity that is offered,” Campbell said. This is the foundation of the East Penn School District.
The last speaker was Ava Grace Saab, the class representative. “Just be you.” She quoted Dr. Seuss, saying “You’re off to great places. Today is your day.”
President of the East Penn School District Board of Directors Dr. Joshua Levinson declared the Class of 2025 graduated.
The class left the room to the recessional “Rondeau” performed by the Emmaus High School orchestra directed by Connie Arnold.
