Dear Editor:
Several weeks ago as the warm spring weather began to settle in, I decided I had reached my limit of looking at all the garbage strewn along Spring Creek Road. I threw trash bags and gloves into my backpack and spent several afternoons working my way along Spring Creek, east of the Congdon Hill Drive intersection. I ended up filling 30+ bags of garbage and here’s a partial list of what I found:
•bags and bags of leftover fast-food meals;
•countless plastic water bottles, many urine-filled;
•lots of plastic shipping wrap;
•car/truck parts, like wheel wells, hubcaps and bumpers;
•soiled underwear;
•lots and lots of soda and beer cans, bottles and cups;
•used condoms;
•innumerable plastic bags of all shapes and sizes;
•work gloves and protective gear;
•bungee cords and cargo strapping.
I’d like to give a huge thank you to the folks at the Lehigh Valley office of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation who come out promptly — usually within hours — to pick up all the bags and debris I’ve left along the roadside.
