The Really Terrible Orchestra of Pennsylvania played a selection of Americana pieces at their May 10 performance at Bethlehem Area Public Library’s Main Branch, 11 W. Church St.
This is just one stop on the RTO’s 2025 season. Concerts are scheduled for 3 p.m. July 19 at Luther Crest, Allentown and at 7 p.m. July 24 at Fellowship Community, Whitehall.
RTO-PA Director Carol Kelly conducted the musicians ranging from age 20 to mid-90s. The group covered a variety of tunes from “My Funny Valentine,” and “Fantasia in F” through “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
The performance wasn’t “really terrible” at all and was well received by the audience packing the library’s community space.
Modeled after the RTO of Edinburgh, Scotland founded by Alexander McCall Smith, the nonprofit organization encourages lapsed musicians to dust off their instruments by providing them an opportunity to regain and hone their skills.
With humor and patience, adult amateur musicians can learn orchestral protocol while enjoying collaborative music making.
Unless they are performing, RTO rehearses every Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Kirkland Village, 1 Kirkland Village Circle, Bethlehem.
