Mama’s Musings: Custody Shrinkage

It’s that time of your again! School’s out. My youngest is finally allowed to go swimming. Unfortunately, Mother Nature disagreed.

We have passes for the Bethlehem pools. Preview night was rainy. I said “pass”. I promised we would go the next day. So what happens? Thunder! Lightning! The pool closed. There’s nothing like having your ADHD kiddo tantruming in the backseat as you drive to two pools that are closed.

He finally calmed down on the way back to the first pool, which was still closed. It was dad’s custody night, so we went home. I took a little mental health break (reference kiddo tantrum in car), and then I made dinner. Then the ex sends a text: “running late at work will let you know when I’m leaving.” Great. By the time the kiddo got picked up, I was done for the night.

The next day, I did my typical Sunday: Breakfast, throw laundry in. Exercise. Shower. Write. Do my Sunday afternoon People Say stroll. Of course, it rained. Welcome to meteorological summer.

Came home, with coffee from The Joint, and started writing. Then I get a text from the kiddo. “On our way, we both got cold.” Ex gets a membership to Dorney for himself and kiddo. They like the Waterpark. So he got picked up late, and is coming home a bit early. Again, welcome to meteorological summer!

And a minimal constriction of my child-free writing time. It’s okay. I will get it all done, just a bit slower. Let’s face it, I’d rather have the kiddo at home.
