The BASD Curriculum Committee presented positive enhancements to the Career Pathways program for students June 2. Speaking to the committee was Liberty HS Interim Principal Rick Amato and Career Pathways Liaison Amy Myers.
Career Pathways is a program empowering students to make their career choices based on their individual talents and interests. Combined with practical information and actual hands-on experience, students are being prepared for employment opportunities in their future.
Students get to visit actual job sites and see if there are things they would like to explore. Students are also made aware of the educational expectations for degree-based jobs. The program makes students aware of interview protocol and advises students through a “mock interview” process and how to develop a resume.
These partnerships include nonprofits, government, health care and for-profit businesses within the valley. Many internships are currently offered for students within the valley giving them real world experience. Not only will they read about professions they may like to enter after they graduate, but they can experience hands-on real-life work experiences.
Superintendent Dr. Jack Silva mentioned that experiences, like these, are typically exclusive to private school students but are now available at BASD public schools. A goal for next year is to expand the pre-apprenticeship programs.
