Baseball team hopes to ride momentum into next season

Over their last three games of the spring season, Catasauqua senior Lynkan Moore knew it was all about the approach.

The Rough Riders ended their season with two wins in their last three contests.

“The biggest difference for us [to end the season] has been attitudes,” said Moore. “We all around [were] excited to play. Another big factor for us has been the confidence level from everyone in the box. We all started to heat up at the plate and as that has happened, we gained a lot of confidence as a group.”

Despite their overall 3-16 record, Moore and his teammates never had doubts that they could achieve success.

“I think we’ve known all season that we could win,” added Moore. “It all comes down to a confidence standpoint. As games started to get away from us, we sort of gave up instead of trying to come back and get back in the game. I know that as a team we for sure know we can win and stay in games with good teams.”

Head coach Steve Bradley watched his club find their way. Their first victory, a 12-2 rout of Moravian Academy helped.

“They worked hard all season,” stressed Bradley. “We needed to tighten things up, and they did that. Once they saw they could win, they gained more confidence. They were pretty patient and stayed the course.”

Junior Reece Lopez also believed his team would get over the top.

“I would say the difference was we were in a lot more games, and we played better as a team,” said Lopez. “We believe we know how to win, and we just have to put the pieces together because we are right there in games.

“We have the potential to do well next season.”

Moore, one of two seniors with Matt Fotta, also is confident the Roughies can turn the corner with a young team.

“There’s a lot of young guys on the team,” added Moore. “This season went a lot faster than I thought it would. It feels like just yesterday that we were having practices in the gym during the winter. I wish I had more time to spend with this team.

“We have two freshman starters at pretty important spots on the field, and they have shown a lot of flashes throughout the season. I think they can use this confidence from the end of this year to carry to next year.”
