Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am a senior and will be graduating from Emmaus High School in June.

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My father’s name is Mike, my mother’s name is Kris and my brother’s name is Matt. I have a dog named Bailey.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is science. I enjoy understanding how things work and interact with the environment. I have an interest in pursuing a career in the medical field.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I am a member of National Honor Society. I received the East Penn Conference Scholar Athlete Nominee for Boys Basketball award at the EHS Senior Awards Night in May. I was a captain of the Emmaus boys varsity basketball team and a two-year varsity letter winner.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has being involved in these organizations impacted your high school experience?

A. I am a member of the Pediatric Cancer Club, PALS club, Future Business Leaders of America and the Hornet’s Nest. I have coached flag football and basketball for Lower Macungie Youth Association and Emmaus Youth Association leagues and I have volunteered for the Coaches vs. Cancer basketball tournament hosted annually at EHS. Being involved in these organizations has allowed me to give back to the school and the community while providing me the opportunity to get to know my classmates in a wide variety of settings.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. In the spring of my junior year, I suffered a major orthopedic injury that required surgery and rod placement in my right leg. I had to take a lot of time off from school and it was unclear if I would ever be able to play basketball again. Maintaining high academic standards while missing a lot of school and dedicating countless hours of physical rehabilitation in order to be able to come back and play basketball at the varsity level was a huge challenge. I was fortunate to have incredible support from family, friends, teachers and coaches. The road back required a great deal of physical and mental fortitude but ultimately allowed me to realize that I can overcome great adversity if I maintain a positive attitude and work ethic.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. I will be attending Rollins College in Florida this fall where I intend to play basketball and major in the sciences. I am considering a career in orthopedic surgery.

Q. If you could spend an evening conversing with an historically significant person, whom would you choose? Why?

A. I would like to speak with Nikola Tesla because I think it would be fascinating to understand how his mind works. The number of world-changing innovations and ideas for which he is credited in the fields of technology and science is quite incredible. It would be very interesting to speak with him about how these ideas came to him and how he brought them to life.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I hope I will be remembered as someone that was friends with a wide range of students during my time in high school and that I always tried to be a good person and treat people well.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. Always be true to yourself, keep God and family first and try not to worry too much about what other people think.
