LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Catty adult leagues battle weather

It’s the onset of summer, and the basketballs are bouncing again on the courts at Catasauqua and North Catasauqua.

Catasauqua head boys’ basketball coach Eric Snyder and Jason Bogdon are directing the leagues in Catasauqua and North Catasauqua, respectively. Both leagues feature 10 teams.

At Catasauqua, defending tournament champion Ohlson Landscaping heads the field. Other teams are annual powerhouse Catty Corner, Grove Street Pub and Grill, Detzi’s Daku Auto Body, The Tribe, Zone 6, Lehigh Valley Jays, Reichenbach Oil, and Rebel Fa,

At North Catty, teams are: Dan’s Siding, Curmaci Dental, Grove Street Pub and Grill, Brent Maron, B’twn Balzers, Preventive Measures, Palemero’s Italian Grill, GR Electric, Team Escobar, and Ray Edwards.

The postseason will begin on July 7 with the league championship game around July 14.

Catty’s fifth annual Battle of the Boroughs will feature the winners of both leagues in a best-of-three, championship series on dates yet to be determined.

Rain has severely dampened the early schedules of both leagues and forced revamped schedules.

“As far as the summer leagues, there’s nothing because we have no continuity,” said Snyder. “We have no rhythm. We play one or two games, and we have one or two nights off.

“Hopefully when we get some nice weather, we can get a bunch of games played in a row. Right now, the weather has been the story.”

In regard to the high school team, Snyder also has had little playing days. The Rough Riders have played two games, and their season in the Lehigh Valley Summer Basketball League will conclude July 15.

The defending District 11 Class 3A champions will return guards Hamaad Jenkins, Frankie Pujols, and Reece Lopez. Others in the mix will be Manny Bolmer, Asael Gonzalez, Dylan Lorah, Alani Nix, Cody Roth, Caden Weaver, and Joey Conway.

Evan DeLong and Zay Vas are promising newcomers.

Snyder indicated that the team has yet to decide whether to play in the Bash at the Beach and Awesomefest in July.
