Mother’s Day 2025 was a difficult day for me. At the end of our church service, mothers could take a carnation. In memory of my mother I specifically picked one color in memory of my mother and a different color for myself and placed them in a vase on my kitchen windowsill. As I watched them over the following week, the one I had picked for my mother slowly died while mine remained fresh. It was so eerily symbolic that I couldn’t bring myself to throw them out for a while.
The copy deadline for the July 2 column will be June 26.
