Jasper Day scheduled June 21

To quote a season specific song from a favorite childhood movie, “Are you ready for the summer?”

Upper Milford Township, the Upper Milford Youth Association and the Upper Milford Township Recreation Commission will you get in the right frame of mind for warmer weather with Jasper Day 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 21 at Jasper Park, 4960 Vera Cruz Road North.

Among the day’s highlights are the Tour de Vera Cruz 5K Trail Run, a 1.5K Family Summer Stroll and family-friendly games.

The rain date is June 22.

On June 26, the Upper Milford Historical Society is scheduled to host a talk by Ed Johnson on The Fries Rebellion, a tax revolt by area Pennsylvania Dutch farmers 1798-1800.

The event will be held 7 p.m. in the Upper Milford Township building, 5671 Chestnut St. Come a bit early to check out exhibits and displays curated by the society.

On June 24, Hivel Und Dahl Preservation Society will host historian Martha Capwell Fox, who will present the program “Geography, Geology, and Genius: how coal and canals ignited the American Industrial Revolution.”

The event will start 7 p.m. at the Upper Milford Township building.

The program will review how “eastern Pennsylvania became the birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution in the mid-19th century because of a unique combination of geography, geology and human genius starting with the locating of the world’s largest deposit of anthracite coal in the mountains of northeast Pennsylvania and the construction of the canals that provided efficient, cost-effective delivery of it to Philadelphia and other cities,” according to a news release from the group.

Southern Lehigh Public Library offers Lower Milford Township library users and other patrons a chance to craft book page roses June 9.

Kelly Heim will lead the class scheduled 6:30-7:45 p.m. at the library, 3200 Preston Lane, Center Valley.

The program is designed for participants 18 years and older. All supplies are provided.

The library will host Tail Wagging Readers 11 a.m. to noon June 14. Children and the young at heart may take the opportunity to read with therapy dogs, renowned as particularly good listeners.

Registration is available through the library website, www.solehipl.org and at the main desk at the library.

The date and theme of the Lower Milford Township Fall Festival have been announced and vendor applications and festival information are available through the township website, www.lowermilford.org.

The fall festival, a popular community event, is scheduled 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 23 on the grounds of the township building, 7607 Chestnut Hill Church Road.

The theme is “Country roads/take me home.”

Festival highlights are expected to include an antique car and tractor show.

The Lower Milford Township board of supervisors will meet 6:30 p.m. June 19 at the municipal building, 7607 Chestnut Hill Road.

The Upper Milford Township board of supervisors will meet 7 p.m. June 5 and June 19 at the municipal building, 5671 Chestnut St. There is an online option as well. Visit the township website, www.uppermilford.net, for details on how to join the meeting remotely.

Township offices in both municipalities will be closed July 4.
