North Catasauqua: Register June 10 for summer cornhole league at park

Registration for the park summer cornhole league will be 6-8 p.m. June 10 at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St. Weekly cornhole matches will be held June 17-Aug. 19.

Online registration is open at forms.gle/xxrfuTFgN5Az2Yjn6. Register as an individual or as team.

There will be prize money for first, second and third places. There will be one midseason tournament where first place and second place win a cash prize.

The 19th annual North Catasauqua small Town USA carnival returns June 11-14 at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park. The carnival will be open 6-10 p.m. each night. There will be food, games, rides and more.

Live music will be held 6:30-9:30 p.m. nightly. The lineup will include Boondock Barons June 11, Third Hand Trio June 12, Waitin’ on Sundown June 13 and Ricky Smith and the Crush June 14.

A four-day ride wristband will be available June 11. Special-priced ride wristbands will be available June 12 and 14.

June 11 marks the 118th anniversary of the incorporation of North Catasauqua Borough. Happy birthday, small Town USA!

The zoning hearing board will hold a meeting 5:30 p.m. June 12 for a special exception hearing and a request for variances at the property located at 1001-1003 Second St. The intended improvement will propose a 20-resident sober living facility.

Additionally, 1134 Howertown Road will be discussed regarding a proposed business change.

Hearings are held in the basement-level meeting room at borough hall, 1066 Fourth St. The meeting is open to the public.

Presbyterian Church of Catasauqua, 210 Pine St., will be holding a food drive from 10 a.m. to noon June 13 in the church parking lot. Nonperishable food items will be accepted to benefit Catasauqua Area Food Bank.

The Rev. Eric Gruber, pastor of St. John Fisher Roman Catholic Church, has been assigned to St. Joseph Parish in Summit Hill by the Allentown Diocese. The new assignment is effective June 17.

There will be a farewell dinner 5-8 p.m. June 14, after the 4 p.m. Mass, at the church at 1229 Third St. Stop by the church hall to say goodbye, thank Gruber for all he has done and wish him well on his new assignment.

In lieu of gifts, there will be a card shower. Anyone wishing to provide baked goods for the event is asked to bring them to the church hall before the 4 p.m. Mass.

The Friends of the Public Library of Catasauqua group is hosting a Father’s Day breakfast June 15 at the library, 302 Bridge St., Catasauqua. Reservations are required for the 10 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. seatings.

The menu will include breakfast casserole, bacon, sausage, pancake bar and assorted beverages. There is a cost, but children under age 5 eat for free.

Presbyterian Church of Catasauqua is planning a free community lunch 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. June 16 at the church. The free community lunch is given out to folks in the community with food insecurity or those who could use a helping hand.

The next borough council meeting will tentatively take place 7 p.m. June 16 in the basement-level meeting room at borough hall, 1066 Fourth St. Summer borough council meetings are subject to change or cancellation for the months of June and July.

The park afternoon wiffle ball program is scheduled for 1-3 p.m. Mondays to Fridays June 16-Aug. 1 on the basketball court at the North Catasauqua park. There is no program the week of July 4.

The program is free.

Suburban North Family YMCA will run the borough Pop Up and Play summer program again this year. The program is open to children in kindergarten through fifth grade and will run 9:30 a.m.-noon Mondays to Fridays from June 16 to Aug. 1.

Wiffle ball is planned in the afternoon.

The program is open to 40 children, with sign-ups for North Catasauqua residents first and then Catasauqua residents if space is available.

The Catasauqua and North Catasauqua J4 Committee is looking for new members and volunteers to help organize the community celebration of our country’s 250th anniversary, which will occur in 2026. The next meeting will be held 7 p.m. June 17 at borough hall.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 122 Union St., Catasauqua, will hold its annual block party 6-10 p.m. June 19 and 20 and 5-10 p.m. June 21. Come out and enjoy children’s games, bingo in the air-conditioned parish hall, basket raffles and a bake sale.

Your favorite foods will be available, such as steak/cheesesteak sandwiches, sausage sandwiches, turkey barbecue, cabbage and noodles, potato pancakes, funnel cake and more.

D.H. Productions will entertain Thursday and Friday. Sons of Izzy will be there all evening Saturday.

This event is rain or shine. Feel free to bring your own chair and find a spot in the grass lot.

Presbyterian Church of Catasauqua is accepting donations for the Roughie Pantry. The pantry is set up to “love our school-aged neighbors.”

The pantry is currently accepting shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, body wash, tampons, sanitary napkins, etc. Collection bins are located at the church entrances.

Catasauqua Area Food Bank, 527 Front St., is accepting donations of pasta, cereal, soup, rice, stuffing, instant potatoes, granola bars and peanut butter crackers.

Donations may be dropped off during open hours, 3-4 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.

Monetary donations are also accepted. If you have any questions, call 610-264-8366.

Note, any donations or checks to the food bank must be written to Catasauqua Community Partnership or CCPI, due to banking regulations. The food bank is under the umbrella of the Catasauqua Community Partnership, as they manage the financial part of the operation.

Community support of the food bank is very important and the clients who benefit from the services offered appreciate your generosity.

Catasauqua Community Thrift Shop, 113 Bridge St., is stocked with clothing for spring and summer.

The regular store hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Shop volunteers are happy to accept donations of good, used, clean clothing, household items and toys during store hours. Proceeds from the shop are returned to the community through contributions that support youth and adult programs and services.

Note, any donations or checks to the thrift shop must be written to Catasauqua Community Partnership or CCPI and not to the thrift shop, due to banking regulations.

St. Mary’s offers a grief support gathering for widows. This is a nondenominational gathering that offers conversation and support for those who have lost their spouse.

All are welcome to attend. Light refreshments are provided.
