Fountain Hill honored the sacrifices of veterans at its annual Memorial Day service May 23, with local heroes in attendance.
Special guests Matt Marks, Mike Johnson, Fountain Hill Borough Council and police and fire departments were there to pay tribute and show their support. The service included the Broughal MS band, which performed the patriotic selections of “Star-Spangled Banner” and “This is My Country.”
“Taps” was performed by Yair Rosario to close out the ceremony.
Majorettes, including Selah Young, performed alongside the music. Speakers included Commander Gerhart Basset of American Legion Post 379 and officer Richmon Penn, who reminder the crowd that Memorial Day is much more than just a day off from work or school. He said the significance of this holiday is often overlooked as we choose to view it as the beginning of summer.
A floral wreath was placed by Fountain Hill Police and Fire Department as a tribute and a reminder of the meaning of Memorial Day.
