Scholarships for displaced federal workers
Muhlenberg College has announced the launch of its Displaced Workers Scholarship program, designed to support federal, state and local government workers who have lost their jobs due to layoffs. This program also extends benefits to each of Muhlenberg’s corporate partners, providing financial relief and career-focused educational opportunities for those seeking to re-enter the workforce with new, in-demand skills.
The new scholarship applies to all Muhlenberg College graduate, degree-completion, and continuing education programs. Based on regional labor market trends and growing employer demand, areas of study include business, health care management and leadership, information technology, business analytics and education.
Qualifying students may receive an estimated scholarship value of up to $5,250 for graduate programs and $5,000 for undergraduate degree-completion programs. Displaced workers from Muhlenberg’s partner institutions will receive the scholarship benefit of the highest value, whether from the partner agreement or the displaced worker program.
Prospective students are encouraged to contact Muhlenberg’s Division of Graduate and Continuing Education for more information about program eligibility and the application process.

College surpasses fundraising goal
Muhlenberg College President Kathleen Harring has announced that the college surpassed its $125 million Boundless: The Campaign for Muhlenberg fundraising goal. Although the campaign officially ends June 30, Harring announced a current total of $125,586,554 recently, as alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents and friends gathered in the college’s Life Sports Center John Deitrich ’35 Field House
The most ambitious campaign in Muhlenberg’s history, Boundless initially aimed to raise $111 million, but the college increased the goal to $125 million two years ago. “The last few years have been a roller coaster for higher education,” said President Harring. “The pandemic reshaped so much about the college experience. It amplified students’ need for financial aid, for academic and career guidance, for strong, sustained mentoring. In that context, the idea of boundlessness became even more powerful. Our world is changing at an unprecedented pace. The workplace is evolving. Challenges are more complex.
Boundless is helping provide what our students need to meet this moment. At Muhlenberg we are adapting too – while holding true to our roots. Bringing our campaign priorities to life is how we do that.”
Founded in 1848, Muhlenberg is a highly selective, four-year residential, liberal arts college in Allentown, with nearly 2,000 bachelor’s and master’s degree-seeking students.
NCC Awarded Funding from Department of Education
Funding will enhance dual enrollment pathways for high schoolers
Dual credit program grant
Northampton Community College (NCC) has been awarded $860,161 in grant funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Education as part of the Shapiro Administration’s $14 million investment in dual credit programs across the Commonwealth. This significant funding will enable NCC to launch innovative dual enrollment pathways specifically designed for high school students in the high-demand fields of allied health, education and skilled trades.
The grant is part of a statewide initiative announced by the PDE to increase access to dual credit opportunities for high school students, allowing them to earn college credit and gain a head start on their postsecondary education and career preparation. Fifteen public institutions of higher education in Pennsylvania received funding through this program.
The focus on allied health, education and skilled trades directly addresses critical workforce shortages identified as high-priority occupations in the region. These fields are facing challenges due to an aging workforce, underrepresentation of diverse populations and limited opportunities for high school students to explore and prepare for these career paths.
This grant funding will significantly enhance NCC’s capacity to serve high school students, providing them with invaluable opportunities to earn college credit, explore promising career paths and ultimately contribute to the economic vitality of the Commonwealth.
