Northampton, Freedom each win three 2025 Freddy Awards

The 23rd annual Freddy Awards Ceremony was presented May 22 at the State Theatre Center for the Arts, Easton, and telecast on WFMZ Channel 69 and WFMZ+.

State Theatre Center for the Arts President and CEO Shelley Brown and WFMZ’s Eve Russo were co-hosts.

In the circulation area of Lehigh Valley Press, Northampton Area High School received three Freddy Awards for “Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical,” including Outstanding Featured Performance by an Actress, Outstanding Performance by a Featured Dancer, and Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role; Freedom High School received three Freddy Awards for “Nice Work If You Can Get It,” including Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role, Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, and Outstanding Technical Design, and Moravian Academy received two Freddy Awards for “The Drowsy Chaperone,” including Outstanding Technical Design By A Smaller School, and Outstanding Overall Production by a Smaller School.

Also, in The Press circulation area, Bethlehem Catholic High School received one Freddy Award for “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and Emmaus High School received one Freddy Award for “Mamma Mia!”

Overall, Nazareth Area High School received five Freddy Awards for “Seussical,” including Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical; Warren Hills Regional High School received three Freddy Awards for “Newsies”; Bangor Area High School received two Freddy Awards for “The Hunchback of Notre Dame (High School)”; William Allen High School received one Freddy Award for “Avenue Q: School Edition”; Southern Lehigh High School received one Freddy Award for “Legally Blonde the Musical,” and Wilson Area High School received one Freddy Award for “The Hunchback of Notre Dame (High School).”

Students from 29 schools in Northampton, Lehigh and Warren counties presented spring musicals Feb. 27 through April 27.

- Outstanding Technical Design By A Smaller School: Moravian Academy High School. “The Drowsy Chaperone.”

- Outstanding Technical Design: Freedom High School, “Nice Work If You Can Get It”

- Outstanding Use of Costumes: Nazareth Area High School, “Seussical”

- Outstanding Performance by a Male Ensemble Member: Dominic Oviedo as Reuben, Bethlehem Catholic High School, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”

- Outstanding Performance by a Female Ensemble Member: Tailisha Montanez Vargas as Lucy, William Allen High School, “Avenue Q: School Edition”

- Outstanding Small Ensemble Performance: Milo Dominguez, Echo Picone, “Something To Believe In,” Warren Hills Regional High School, “Newsies”

- Outstanding Use of Choreography and Musical Staging: Warren Hills Regional High School, “Newsies”

- Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role: Kiersten Rubery as Duchess Estonia Dulworth, Freedom High School, “Nice Work If You Can Get It”

- Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role: Cole Faccinetto as Cookie McGee, Freedom High School, “Nice Work If You Can Get It”

- Vic Kumma Award for Outstanding Solo Vocal Performance: Emerson Tyrell, “Ireland,” Southern Lehigh High School, “Legally Blonde the Musical”

- Outstanding Production Number: Bangor Area High School, “Topsy Turvy (Parts 1 and 2),“ “The Hunchback of Notre Dame (High School)”

- Outstanding Technical Contribution By A Student: Lauren Summers, Costume Design, Nazareth Area High School, “Seussical”

- Outstanding Performance By An Orchestra: Nazareth Area High School, “Seussical”

- Outstanding Featured Performance by an Actor: Nick Janneck as Dom Claude Frollo, Bangor Area High School, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame (High School)”

- Outstanding Featured Performance by an Actress: Hailey Achey as Miss Trunchbull, Northampton Area High School, “Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical”

- Outstanding Stage Crew In memory of Capt. Christopher Seifert: Nazareth Area High School, “Seussical”

- Outstanding Performance by a Featured Dancer: Hailey Laury as Mrs. Wormwood, Northampton Area High School, “Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical”

- Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role: Audrey Wood as Matilda, Northampton Area High School, “Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical”

- Outstanding Ensemble: Warren Hills Regional High School, “Newsies”
