Read to therapy dogs June 3 at the Parkland Community Library

Parkland Community Library, 4422 Walbert Ave., South Whitehall, will offer 1-2-3 Play with Me for children ages 1-3 years old and their caregivers 9:30-11 a.m. May 30 and June 6. A different child development professional will interact informally, give advice and provide community resource information each week.

Siblings under the age of six years old may attend.

Join master kite builders (and fliers) Steve Ferrel and Cliff Quinn for a presentation on the different kinds of kites 10 a.m. to noon May 31. Each family will receive one kite sail to decorate with permanent markers and afterward, the master builders will guide you in construction.

The library will host its “Story Time and Craft: What is Hajj?” for kids ages 6 and older 2-3 p.m. May 31. Enjoy a read-aloud story about Hajj which is the annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, which every physically and financially able Muslim is expected to make at least once in their lifetime. This will be followed by a craft.

A Teen’s Dungeon and Dragon Night for kids in grades seven through 12 will take place in-person 6-8 p.m. June 2.

The Java Joy Coffee and Conversation Club for adults will meet 10-11 a.m. June 3.

The library will host a Gentle Stretch Chair Yoga Class for adults 10:30-11:30 a.m. June 3. This class is designed for individuals of all fitness levels who seek to improve flexibility, balance and mental clarity without the need for floor exercises. Using a chair for support, participants will be guided through a series of gentle stretches, mindful movements and breath work exercises to promote relaxation and well-being.

Kids bring your favorite book and practice reading to the patient and gentle Lehigh Valley Therapy dogs 6:30-7:30 p.m. June 3.

The library’s exciting and educational journey through the “Who Would Win?” interactive reading series by Jerry Pallotta for kids ages 7 and older will be held 6-7:30 p.m. June 4.

Yarn lovers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to attend the Fiber Arts Not Just Knitting group 2-4 p.m. June 5 and 12.

Bring your materials for an afternoon of knitting with friends and swapping tips.

The library’s book club will meet 6:30-7:30 p.m. June 5.

Bingo for adults will take place 1-2 p.m. June 6.

Card making with the Sending Sunshine program for teens ages 12-18 will be held 4-5 p.m. June 6. Earn volunteer hours making cards for seniors.

Adults join library staff for an inspiring workshop focused on creating vibrant, pollinator-friendly gardens 10-11:30 a.m. June 7. Discover how planting with purpose can support essential pollinators like bees, butterflies and hummingbirds while adding beauty to your outdoor space. Everyone will go home with a potted flower.

Join library staff for an exciting and interactive story time with Margie Peterson, the author of “The Boy Who Never Threw Anything Away” 10:30-11:30 a.m. June 9. During this special visit, the author will bring the story to life with an engaging live reading, filled with laughter, expression and imaginative moments that will captivate young listeners. To make the day extra special, children will have an opportunity to participate in a hands-on activity inspired by the book, where they’ll transform “everyday items” into unique crafts. Families can also get their own copy of the book signed by the author after the event.

A Dungeon and Dragon Night for adults will take place 6-8 p.m. June 9.

The Senior Book Club will meet 3-4 p.m. June 10 at Luther Crest, 800 Hausman Road, South Whitehall. Residents and nonresidents are welcome to attend.

Adults join author, auctioneer, appraiser and radio show host Mike Ivankovich, who will introduce participants to “What Determines Value” ... and reveal what your antiques, collectibles and personal treasures are really worth today 6-8 p.m. June 10. Registration is required to reserve an appraisal. The first 25 registrants will have the opportunity to bring an item to be appraised. Others are welcome to come and enjoy the program. The Art of Mindful Breathing will take place 6-6:45 p.m. June 10. Join instructor Larissa Noto as she guides participants through breathing exercises. Participants will leave this class with an accompanying handout with each of the breathing techniques – and more – to be able to weave the art of mindful breathing into their everyday life.

The Short Story Society will meet 2-3 p.m. June 12.

The Kids Highlights Club for ages 5-7 will meet to engage in fun, easy crafts and search for hidden pictures in Highlights magazines 6:30-7:30 p.m. June 12.

Adults join Patrick Crerand, director of the Master’s in Fine Arts in a creative-writing program at DeSales University for the library’s writing program Wordsmith 6:30-7:30 p.m. June 12.
