When fans look back on the 2025 softball season, they might mark it as the year that the Salisbury softball team started to turn things around.
A young team with just two seniors and no juniors finished the regular season 8-12, playing better than many thought that they would this season.
The regular season wrapped up with an 11-6 loss to Saucon Valley last week.
Leilanna Negron had three hits in the game and drove in two runs in the game with a two-run single in the bottom of the first. Jenna Swoyer had two doubles with a run scored and an RBI. In all, Salisbury banged out five doubles in the game.
Tessa Kemmerer threw a complete game, striking out five batters.
Salisbury’s run for a spot in districts hit a roadblock with three losses to finish the season as the Falcons had to face Southern Lehigh (14-6), Palisades (17-3), and Saucon Valley to finish the regular season.
First year coach Brian Fehnel loses Amelia Swoyer and Zaira Stokes to graduation. Next season, Salisbury will still be young with no seniors on the roster.
The Colonial League playoffs got underway Saturday. Top-seeded Northwestern advanced to semifinals with a 4-0 win over Bangor. The Tigers advanced to meet No. 5 Notre Dame (Green Pond) in Tuesdays semifinals. The Crusaders beat Southern Lehigh 5-0 in the first round.
The other side of the bracket saw No. 2 Palisades roll past Palmerton, 11-1, while No. 3 Pen Argyl beat No. 6 Northern Lehigh, 12-2 in the first round.
After Tuesday’s semifinals, which were played after Press deadline, the title game is set for Thursday at 5 p.m. at Pates Park, with the East Penn Conference championship game set for 7 p.m.
