EHS beats Allen, Muhls
The Emmaus High School baseball team climbed within a game of clinching a District 11 playoff berth with two wins in its last three games heading into this week.
After a 9-8 loss to Central Catholic last Wednesday, April 23, Emmaus bounced back with wins over Allen and Muhlenberg to get to 9-7 overall and 7-6 in East Penn Conference games.
In the loss to the Vikings, Emmaus was behind 6-2 before a six-run sixth inning put the Hornets ahead by two runs heading into the bottom of the inning. Central scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead then held on in a scoreless seventh inning.
Logan Ravier went 2-for-3 for Emmaus with three RBI and a run scored. Ryan Hummel was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Drew McGeehan went 1-for-3 but also walked twice and scored once.
Hornet pitchers held Allen to three hits in a 6-1 win over the Canaries.
Cole Moreau pitched six innings and allowed two hits and one run while striking out seven Allen batters. Robbie Barnes pitched one inning, striking out two and allowing one hit.
Tanner Karwacki went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs against Allen. Josh Diaz went 2-for-4 and knocked in four runs, while McGeehan was 2-fo-4 with an RBI and two runs.
Emmaus beat Muhlenberg 8-2 in a nonleague game.
Jaden Betz allowed three Muhl hits while striking out four batters and surrendering no earned runs. Andrew Lee pitched one innings and allowed one hit and no runs. Both of Muhlenberg’s runs were unearned as Emmaus committed three errors.
Six different Hornet batters had a hit in the win, with Aaron Fleetwood (1-for-3) driving in four runs and scoring once.
With games remaining against Dieruff (1-11 EPC; 2-12 overall), Whitehall (9-4; 12-4) and Parkland (10-2; 11-4), Emmaus needs one more win to secure a .500 overall record and a spot in the district playoffs.
The Hornets are also fighting for a league playoff berth and entered this week one game behind East Stroudsburg South (8-5) for the eighth seed in the EPC playoffs.
