U.S. Rep. Ryan Mackenzie looks to help working families
Dear neighbors,
As your representative in Congress, I’m committed to fighting for policies that help working families and keep our communities safe. During my first four months in office, I’ve been working to advance commonsense solutions that make life more affordable for working families, strengthen our economy and secure our borders.
When I talk to families across the Greater Lehigh Valley, I hear about the same challenges: the high cost of raising a family, the need for more affordable childcare and concerns about safety and economic opportunity. That’s why I’ve made it a priority to tackle these issues head-on.
In my first few weeks in office, I introduced a tax package focused on working families, cosponsored the bipartisan Affordable Childcare Act and coled efforts to prevent maternal deaths and improve early childhood nutrition. These are practical bills that ensure parents get the support they need to build strong, healthy families. I believe we should be making it easier, not harder, for families to succeed.
As a husband and father in a family where both parents work, these issues are personal to me. I know how hard parents are working to build a better future for their children, and I understand the strain years of rising prices have put on their budgets. That’s why one of the first things I did in Congress was introduce a tax package focused on working families.
My plan would double and make permanent the employer tax credit for paid family leave, helping more businesses offer this critical support to their workers. It would also double the existing childcare tax credit to make childcare more affordable for working parents. In addition, my proposal would raise the child tax credit to $5,000 per child to help ease the burden of rising household costs and expand the Adoption Tax Credit while creating a new matching credit for IVF expenses, so that more families have the opportunity to grow.
As part of efforts to bring relief to working families, I’ve also focused on addressing illegal immigration and border security. Getting illegal immigration under control isn’t just about national security – it’s also about putting American workers and American families first. The new administration has taken important steps in the right direction and Congress has helped do its part by passing laws like the Laken Riley Act and increasing funding to deport criminal illegal immigrants.
Our combined efforts have made incredible progress, with encounters at the southern border dropping to the lowest levels in 25 years thanks to stronger enforcement policies. But there’s still more work to be done.
Recently, I introduced the Day 1, Dollar 1 E-Verify Act to close loopholes in the current laws and ensure that all federal contractors, regardless of contract size or duration, use E-Verify from the start. From my seat on the Homeland Security Committee, I’ll continue fighting for policies that protect American families and uphold the rule of law.
Throughout my time in public service – from my years in the Pennsylvania State House to my work now in Congress – I’ve focused on practical, results-driven solutions. I regularly meet with parents, small business owners and community leaders across the Greater Lehigh Valley and I’ll never stop fighting to make sure their voices are heard. Whether it’s making life more affordable for working families, securing our borders, or ensuring that the government works for you – not against you – I’m proud to be fighting for the people of our community every single day.
It’s an honor to serve you and I look forward to continuing our work together to build a stronger future for the Greater Lehigh Valley. If our office can ever be helpful to you, please don’t hesitate to reach out by phone or on our website: www.mackenzie.house.gov.
