There will be no fourth meeting between city softball rivals Freedom and Liberty as both teams were knocked out of the District XI Class 6A Softball Tournament on May 24.
Top-seeded Freedom lost to eighth-seeded Easton in a district quarterfinal, 2-1, at Freedom.
Easton held a 2-0 lead until the sixth inning when Siara Gonzalez’s RBI single to center field scored Morgan Pavolko. That would be the Patriots’ only run in the game.
Winning pitcher Audrey Rinda tallied 15 strikeouts, passing the 500 strikeout mark during the district quarterfinal.
Fourth-seeded Liberty lost to fifth-seeded Stroudsburg in another district quarterfinal, 5-3, at Liberty.
Leah Onia, AnnMarie Stella, Ella Quayle, Sophia Rivera, Adrianna O’Neill, and Addy Smith provided hits for the Hurricanes, but a home run and two triples supplied more scoring for the Mountaineers.
In a Class 4A district quarterfinal, eighth-seeded Bethlehem Catholic lost to top-seeded Northwestern Lehigh, 11-1, at Northwestern Lehigh.
Northwestern led, 2-0, on an early 2-run home run, but Becahi’s Mikaila Brooks responded with a homer to center field for the Golden Hawks’ only run in the game.
Winning pitcher Emma Freeman allowed just one more hit in the mercy rule contest that ended in five innings.
